Olympus Has Fallen Trailer

It’s Die Hard meets Red Dawn with a dose of Michael Bay explosive mayhem!

Two Face as the President

So Aaron Eckhart plays the US president in this movie…to which I say, “It’s about damn time!” I’ve always thought that Eckhart has that All- American Robert Redford/Harrison Ford type of thing going on so him being the president kinda fits for me.

And who gets to be the acting President when Eckhart gets captured? None other than Morgan Freeman.

UN Security Council roll call

“I want to talk to the Russians, the Chinese, the British and the French. In THAT order,” says Morgan Freeman in the trailer. Shouldn’t they talk to the Chinese first before the Russians? Considering that China is the next emerging superpower and the fact that the terrorists in the movie are Asian-looking.

North Korea

The villains are actually North Koreans. And the guy who plays their leader played another North Korean villain in Pierce Brosnan’s last 007 movie, Die Another Day. Talk about typecasting!

Gerard Butler saving the President….like in Escape from New York!

In this movie, Gerard Butler is the only person who can save the US President. Ironically, Gerard Butler was considered for the role of Snake Plissken in the remake of Escape From New York. And what was the plot of that movie? Yup, it’s about rescuing the US President.

Not Channing Tatum

I actually never even heard about ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ before this trailer came out. But I have heard about another upcoming film that has a similar plot. In ‘White House Down’ coming in June this year, Channing Tatum plays an agent that has to protect the president (played by Jamie Foxx) from terrorists that’s taking over the White House.

Olympus Has Fallen is coming out this March.

‘Avatar’ trailer – Smurf meets Fern Gully

“Avatar,” a live action film with a new generation of special effects, takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads an epic battle to save a civilization. James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of “Titanic,” first conceived the film years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, “Avatar” delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

The story’s hero is Jake Sully, a former Marine confined to a wheelchair. Bitter and disillusioned, he’s still a warrior at heart. All Jake ever wanted was something worth fighting for, and he finds it in the place he least expected: on a distant world. Jake has been recruited to join an expedition to the moon Pandora, which corporate interests are strip-mining for a mineral worth $20 million per kilogram on Earth. To facilitate their work, the humans use a link system that projects a person’s consciousness into a hybrid of humans and Pandora’s indigenous humanoids, the Na’vi. This human-Na’vi hybrid – a fully living, breathing body that resembles the Na’vi but possesses the individual human’s thoughts, feelings and personality – is known as an “avatar.”

In his new avatar form, Jake can once again walk. His mission is to interact with and infiltrate the Na’vi with the hope of enlisting their help – or at least their acquiescence – in mining the ore. A beautiful Na’vi female, Neytiri, saves Jake’s life, albeit reluctantly, because even in his avatar body, Jake represents to her the human encroachment on the Na’vi’s unspoiled world.

As Jake’s relationship with Neytiri deepens, along with his respect for the Na’vi, he faces the ultimate test as he leads an epic conflict that will decide nothing less than the fate of an entire world.

The Movie trailer guy passed away

Sometimes I like to imagine something that I saw or heard about into a movie or more specifically a movie trailer. For example, I hear about a Bruneian family whose cars get stolen in Miri (Malaysian city across the border) and I would imagine a made up movie about a man who gets his revenge by single handedly destroy the illegal car trade business or some shit like that. I would explain the idea to my brother in a ‘trailer form’. I would imitate the movie trailer voice and say something along the line of *lowers voice like in movie trailer* “They Thought it was funny to steal his car…They Thought it was funny to terrify his family….They Thought Wrong…..This Summerrrrr….There’s nothing funny about Awang Haji crossing the border…looking for payback…..Arnold Schwarzenegger in….ONCE UPON A TIME IN MIRI”

Or I see a lot of people tapauing and I start thinking, “In a future without rules…the only way to survive….is to Tapau….This summerrr….one food…one dinner table….two men……but only one can be…THE TAPAU KING…coming to theatres near you” HAHA

So basically I love to imitate the trailer voice, it’s like a recurring joke for me. Which is why I’m sad that we won’t be hearing that distinctive voice ever again because ‘the movie trailer voice guy’, Don LaFontaine has passed away at the age of 68 due to lung collapse.

A voice actor famous for recording nearly 5,000 movie trailers, and nearly 350,000 commericals, programs, files and other presentations. He is arguably the most successful Voice Actor of all time.

Resident Evil Degeneration trailer

New trailer for the upcoming straight-to-DVD CG “Non-Milla Jovovich Alice Bullshit” movie, Resident Evil Degeneration. You can find it here or watch it on Youtube below

It’s 7 years after the incident at the Raccoon City (that’s a year after RE4 and three years before the upcoming RE5).

…at an airport somewhere in the United States, on an ordinary autumn afternoon, a zombie is unleashed. Now, in an airport beginning to fill with the undead, the horrific disaster is about to repeat itself… Claire Redfield, now a member of an NGO supporting victims of bioterrorism and medical disasters, happens to be in the airport while Leon S. Kennedy comes to the site on a mission to take care of the incident.

It’s a RE2 reunion Yay! You have Leon (sadly, the super cheesy one liner action hero version of him from RE4), Claire (looking good) and a G-Virus monster?! (notice the big eye on the monster at the end of the trailer).

Here’s the funny thing; it’s such a coincidence that around the time of RE2, my friend and I made our own fictional Resident Evil 3 story starring Leon, Claire, Sherry, Chris, Jill, Barry, Rebecca and Hunk (basically everyone from the the first two games Hehe) and set it in an airport. The story we came up with was that the T-Virus & the G-Virus spread across the US and their only hope for escape is to go to the airport (now turned into a military controlled evacuation center). However, things went to shit quickly and Chris dies (sacrificing himself to save Claire). In the end, the survivors escaped to Europe by plane, not before fighting a T+G virus Tyrant of course LOL. Oh well, at least when RE3 got released we got the next best thing, Jill’s blue outfit 🙄

Road to the Dark Knight

The Dark Knight, definitely my most anticipated movie in the last three years, will be out this week!! Planning to catch it tomorrow or anytime this week. And I will be wearing a Black Superman T-Shirt! Why would I want to do that? On my other post, I told you about what happened during the premiere of Batman Begins:

While we were waiting for the cinema to open, I notice that almost everyone was looking at me and giggling. Later I realised that I was wearing a black Superman T-Shirt. LOL So there I was in the premiere of a Batman movie wearing a Superman t-shirt.

So just for fun and for old time sake (and boredom too), I’m going to wear that same Black Superman T-Shirt.

Anyway, here’s a rundown of our ‘journey’.

June 2005 – Batman Begins

Here’s my review of Batman Begins over my first blog.

October 2006 – Heath Ledger as the Joker

When my brother set up his blog, one of the first movie news he posted was the casting of Heath Ledger as the Joker. Although I was happy that he will be Joker but at that time I was still in a “Ledger’s cool but damn, if only Paul Bettany was Joker!!” camp. Of course I’ve now forgotten about Paul Bettany hehe. It was also around this time that Ledger said McDowell’s character from Clockwork Orange will be the inspiration of his Joker.

It’s also funny reading what was written by my brother at that time:

But don’t expect the usual Joker look with the heavy make up, green hair and purple suit

Well, he does have a green hair and purple suit!! Haha!

May 2007 – Joker revealed

I remember there was this viral site where you need to submit your email. With each email submitted, a single pixel of the first Joker picture is revealed. I contributed, my brother contributed and so did everyone around the world. Eventually, the above picture was revealed. When I first saw it, Jigsaw from SAW series came to my mind lol

July 2007 – Teaser trailer

A teaser trailer was released featuring only the Bat Logo, a dialog between Bruce & Alfred and the first reveal of the Joker’s voice by Ledger. My first reaction to the trailer was “Holy Shit! He nailed the laugh!!”

August 2007 – Wizard World footage

Fans who attended the Wizard World in Chicago were treated with an exclusive footage from the movie. It wasn’t leaked at the time therefore we only relied on descriptions written by those who were there. Now, that footage has been released and you can watch it below on YouTube.

Nov 2007 – Joker makes his debut on the cover of Empire magazine

When I started this blog back in November, I didn’t waste time making a post about The Dark Knight.

Dec 2007 – New Dark Knight trailer featuring the Joker

New Dark Knight trailer attached to the Will Smith movie, ‘I Am Legend’ immediately became a hit primarily because it’s the first time we get an idea of Ledger’s version of the Joker. Everyone starts saying catch phrases like “Why So Serious?” “It’s all part of the plan” and “Let’s put a smile on that Face

Jan 2008 – The tragic death of Joker himself, Heath Ledger

Luckily, he completed his work on The Dark Knight. His death created a lot publicity for the movie and his role as the Joker. Some say he had trouble sleeping because he was so physically and psychologically committed to his role as the Joker so he took a lot of pills. But I doubt that his role as the Joker led to his death.

April 2008 – Joker in nurse outift

As summer movie season approached, the picture of Joker in a nurse wardrobe got leaked. It was funny and creepy at the same. Later, various posters for the movie were released mostly featuring Batman and Joker. Finally, a new trailer was released shedding more light on the potrayal of Harvey Dent by Aaron Eckhart.

July 2008 – Early Reviews

Early reviews poured in and almost all of them were positive. Some have compared it with such movies like Heat (Dark Knight is more of a Crime Drama than a superhero movie), Godfather II and Empire Strikes Back (the latter two are examples of sequels that are infinitely better than their first movies).

Here’s a music from the soundtrack called ‘Like A Dog Chasing Cars’ to pump you up. Enjoy!

Is Dark Knight really that good?!!!

It’s July and that means my most anticipated summer movie will be released in few weeks. The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins and starring the late Heath Ledger in his final complete movie, will arrive in theatres on July 18.

Is this movie going to be good?! Are people only exaggerating the awesomeness of Heath Ledger’s performance just because he died? CAN THIS MOVIE LIVE UP TO ITS HYPE?!! Here’s the rundown so far of early reviews from movie reviewers I frequently check/trust:

Moriarty from AICN (easily my favourite and the more talented reviewer from that site)

…Chris Nolan accomplishes something that both WAR OF THE WORLDS and CLOVERFIELD tried to do, and with more grace and insight. Those films both used 9/11 imagery to resonate with viewers, and in both cases, the imagery is certainly arresting and upsetting, but to what end? Just to remind us? Just to tap into the fear we felt that day? Here, Nolan invokes 9/11, but he pushes past it to also deal with the fear that has stayed with us as a culture since that moment, and also the way it forced the world around us to change. This is the first mainstream movie to fully digest the events of September 11th and to deal with them in a way that starts to sort out who we are now as a result. Heady stuff for a movie about a dude wearing a bat suit who beats the shit out of criminals, but then… isn’t that the point?

Peter Travers from Rolling Stone

Go ahead, bitch about the movie being too long, at two and a half hours, for short attention spans (it is), too somber for the Hulk crowd (it is), too smart for its own good (it isn’t). The haunting and visionary Dark Knight soars on the wings of untamed imagination. It’s full of surprises you don’t see coming. And just try to get it out of your dreams.

From TIME Magazine

…Nolan has a more subversive agenda. He wants viewers to stick their hands down the rat hole of evil and see if they get bitten. With little humor to break the tension, The Dark Knight is beyond dark. It’s as black — and teeming and toxic — as the mind of the Joker.

And ComingSoon.net

While one might hesitate to throw around overused words like “masterpiece,” it’s refreshing that “The Dark Knight” is not a movie that can be viewed and easily discarded like so much other summer fare.

And 5 solid stars from IGN

…there really is no better way to describe The Dark Knightthan to call it a great work of art because it transcends both the boundaries of comic book moviemaking and even the parameters of good filmmaking. What Nolan and Co. have created doesn’t just function as a thrill ride or even a terrific movie, but rather as a substantive and philosophical examination of why we need heroes, and then when we need them, what they mean.

And then another perfect score from JoBlo..

Christopher Nolan’s latest is a near masterpiece that is smothered in atmosphere, and delivers all the thrills you’d expect and more

And finally comes LatinoReview:

There were too many characters and a good fifteen, twenty minutes could have been cut. Either trim down the love triangle mess or some of the unnecessary mob scenes to quicken the pace. Despite those negatives, The Dark Knight is an exciting movie to watch, especially on a giant IMAX screen. Just cover your kid’s eyes whenever Maggie Gyllenhall is on screen. It’s not the Joker’s face that will be giving them nightmares! Just kidding Maggie. I’d bang you in a minute. With a bag over my head.

ROFLMFAO!!! But he still gave it an A- (almost perfect) so that’s still very good.

“When the chips are down, these civilized people will eat each other. You’ll see, I’ll show it to yah”

Quantum Of Solace…whatever that means

Here’s the trailer for the new James Bond movie, Quantum Of Solace. Daniel Craig returns as the badass yet emotionally unstable version of this iconic British superspy. Click here for the HD version of the trailer or watch the YouTube version below:

“Quantum of Solace” continues the high octane adventures of James Bond (Daniel Craig) in “Casino Royale.”Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M (Judi Dench) interrogate Mr White (Jesper Christensen) who reveals the organisation which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined.

Forensic intelligence links an Mi6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille (Olga Kurylenko), a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organisation. On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world’s most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano (Joaquin Cosio). Using his associates in the organisation, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country, giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land.

In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene’s sinister plan and stop his organisation.

I’m not much of a James Bond fan but I’ve seen some of them (probably all of the Pierce Brosnan movies, You Only Live Twice (Sean Connery), From Russia With Love (Sean Connery) and the guilty pleasure LMAO Moonraker with Roger Moore). But Casino Royale was the only movie that I liked not just as a ‘ James Bond movie’ but as an action movie in general (check our review of Casino Royale). So I can’t wait for this installment.

Release Date: Nov 7 2008

PS: WTF does Quantum of Solace mean? ‘Solace’ means comfort so ‘quantum of solace’ would mean a large quantity of comfort. Here’s what producer Michael G.Wilson has to say

I think it’s very appropriate for this film because based on what happened to the character of James Bond in the last film, Casino Royale, he needs a quantum of solace, considering his mental state

Resident Evil 5

New trailer for Resident Evil 5

The story is set in 2008 (that’s ten years after events in Racoon City, five years after the downfall of Umbrella and four years after Leon’s adventure in RE4…I think I got the timeline right). Chris Redfield, the protagonist of the original game and last seen battling zombies in Siberia, is now working for a new Biohazard containment group and is on a mission in Africa to investigate a viral outbreak.

Few random thoughts on the plot:

–  Chris Redfield is the hero so expect his archenemy Albert Wesker to show up.

– We saw a glimpse of a blond female characterin the earlier trailer and on the magazine scans. A lot of people speculate that it is Sherry Birkin (the daughter of William, the mad scientist who was partly responsible for the outbreak in Racoon City..long story). I also think its Sherry Birkin and also believed that it would be stupid on the part of the game creator if it doesn’t turned to be her. Unlike characters like Rebecca or Carlos, Sherry’s story needs some closure. We last heard about her being taken custody by a man from the military (under a deal made by Leon – kinda sucks that we didn’t get to know more about this deal in RE4). I hope she isn’t a new character.

– Speaking of a new character, Chris will team up with a new female character rumored to be named Sheva. I hope she’s playable in the game.

– The game creator said that this game will delve into the origin of the virus. This makes sense considering how the ‘Mother Virus’ (all the viruses featured in the series  originated from this one) was discovered in Africa. According to the game’s mythology, the virus was discovered by three men: Ashford, Dr. Marcus and Ozwell Spencer. Only Spencer is still alive and haven’t been seen in any of the RE games (only mentioned). So I hope we’ll finally be able to see him in this one.

– The enemies? They certainly don’t look like those familiar slow walking zombies. Infected with mind controlling parasites like in RE4? I think it will be a combination of a virus (due to the plot point mentioned above) and a parasite (they behave like the enemies in RE4).

Resident Evil 5 to be released around 2009 for PS3 and Xbox360 (no Wii…yet)

The X-Files: I Want To Believe

That’s the title of the new X-Files movie. Like Simon would say, “I’m not jumping off my chair or anything”

It would be cool if they just use this poster from Mulder’s office as their official movie poster.

But on second thought, it wouldn’t fit with the new movie because it doesn’t have anything to do with UFOs and Aliens.

UPDATE May 13 2008

The X-Files: I Want To Believe – 25 July 2008
